The pleasure of working at Criterion, is the pleasure of being able to do it right. We’re working in a company where the first principle is that you have to respect the films that you work on, and then you have to make the best possible discs you can. Our goal is to make a disc that is the closest thing we can to a film archive for the home viewer. We never talk about “added value” around here. The whole phrase just sticks in my craw. The idea that you’re adding extras to increase sales is just bogus. That’s a waste of time, I think. In fact, we are finding that there are large audience of people out there who will, as a result of the work that we do, take chances on films that they might not otherwise have looked at.
